hey guys i know this has been beat down but i dont know enough about either to determine what i need. i have a 99 350 4x4 with a 6 spd. i tow a load of 14k 3 0r 4 times a year. im looking for more power then and more mpgs the rest of the time. 12 mpg is killing me.
one more thing how expensive are exhaust mods and what would be necessary to get the most from chip/programmer and exhaust combo?
Just do the little bit of stuff I have in my signature and that should be good for 3 to 4 mpg. More if you drive as if there is an egg under the throttle. I think what I have can be done for under 1200 bucks. I spread mine out over a lot of years though.
Before you think about a chip, you need to get ready for it. You can do a muffler delete that will help it exhale better. You can do the 6637 to let it inhale better. Get a good set of gauges, EGT gauge and boost gauge, you have a standard so you don't need the trans gauge.
After you get these things, then call the sponsor of this forum, DP-TUNER and talk to Jody about a chip. He will walk you through the process of custom tunning a chip for you.
mark, how much of the $1200 was the exhaust? is stainless necessary? and did u need to change the exhaust because of the chip? thanks.
dan,im not really sure what ratio i have, somebody went into the rear end b4 i got it and they took the tag off. ok i just checked the front end and it has 410 on it. hopefully they werent foolish enough to mismatch the gears. but it sure as heck feels lower than that! but my fuel mileage really doesnt change much when im towing. 12 is what i get all the time.
Yes, a DP Tuner can save you some MPG's but only if you can keep your foot out of it but one thing to keep in mind though, a chip itself will not guarantee instant fuel mileage savings. Other factors like gear ratios, tire size, the weight of your right foot, etc... will play into the role as well. Like Mark said, drive it like there's an egg under the go-pedal is a good habit to get into.

I am the wrong one to answer this question as I had my MBRP stainless shipped to Fairbanks and do believe the shipping alone was almost 300 bucks. But I think in the lower 48 it's about 400. I ran my 80 hp superchip for almost 180k miles before the exhaust upgrade with no ill effects. Maybe just luck. If you have 4.10's you're really handicapped. Did you do the turn the wheel one full revolution trick to determine the ratio?

thanks guys!
If you have a dually with the 4.11 gears in the butt, you are doing pretty good. You can get better with some inexensive mods already listed. More air in and out will help. The DP-Tuner will help with fuel if you stay out of the pedal.

In GA I don't think stainless is a must. I don't have it. If rust is a problem with the bottom of your truck, then you may want stainless. We don't have enough bad weather here (salted roads) to rust things up.

Likes stated, the DP-Tuner is change on the fly, more when you need it, less when you don't.

Yep, what he said.
Also, call Jody or Diane at DP-Tuner, tell them the guys at FTE told you to call. Tell him what you do with your truck and what you want. He is in GA as well and may be close enough for you to go and have it live tuned. He will sqeeze every mile out of a gallon that is possible with live tuning. Link is in my sig as well. Super nice folks. You only pay for what you pick. More tunes = more money. Plus your truck will thank you for the air and tuner.
i have ts performance chip i am wanting to sell works great but gittin rid of the truck pm me and i'll let ya kno a price if ur interested.....its the one in my sig. its currently on a 200 f-350 6spd. so all u would have to do is hook it up and ur good to go....oh and it boosted my mpg up bout 3-4 mpgs when i can keep my foot out of it.
