Sheldon, its around 205000. All the leather are heated and there are some vehicles you can get with cooled seats. When I take mine in I will ask about that. On mine its just the drivers side bottom outside portion thats taken a beating from getting in/out. Cloth seats will do the same thing too. I agree on the quality - all makes are using such thin crap. The upholstery guy told me that leather actually works better on big flat seats. Its the raised bolster areas on the newer seats that makes them wear - but also makes the seat feel comfortable. The KR stuff is the only real leather but I have never been crazy about the color of it - it feels like you are either in a saddle or a baseball glove.
Oh ya, thanks for the truck link - I gave Mike the info. He is getting frustrated because finding a 5 or 6 year old vehicle thats in immaculate shape is hard to do because guys either keep the good ones or sell them to someone they know. Seeing as to how the price has dropped on newer ones, he looked at a 2006 and a 2005 w/6.0 but they were both not great for Oasis reports, one was absolutely terrible.
I get the impression that the good 6.0's are staying with their current owners because of the current resale situation, the poor mileage of the 6.4, and the planned replacement of the Navistar engines with the in house 6.7 Scorpion.
There are some that were good right out of the box and some like mine that were terrible but with all the upgrades and performance mods, they are too much fun to part with (especially for what they are allowing for them on trade).
Sheldon, if the truck has the latest Ford calibration and you get the ARP headstuds done along with head gaskets (a cab off repair), EGR blocker plate to keep the hot gas out of the EGR cooler, and the right programmer that addresses the shifting and makes the EGR valve inoperable then it will be quick and reliable with the only real concerns being the injectors and the odd sensor, etc. I am confident in saying that the headgaskets will not stay in a truck with factory TTY headbolts and any programmer that gets close to the 100 hp mark. There may be the odd one that might but not likely for long.
If you wanted to get really crazy with bigger injectors, an aftermarket turbo, upgraded tranny, and some sort of injection system (not sure of the differences between water, propane, methanol, or nitrous but I think they are all used).
Actually what Ive always wanted to do is build a regular cab shortbox truck, and throw a big ol souped up diesel in there.
I seen the show pinks one time and they had a dodge (I know its a dodge!) that was build like that with a heavily modified cummins in it. WOW that thing was quick!
My advice to anyone with a 6.0 or looking at one - run an Oasis and if it comes back clean, then run it stock or maybe go with something like a cat back exhaust just to give it some rumble but dont do anything else.
If its been problematic, then run away!
If its still under warranty and problematic, do your homework and see if the symptoms are pointing towards headgaskets. If so and you can get them replaced but with the upgrade to headstuds (no sense putting in the same junk that was substandard in the first place and had way too high of a failure rate), then also get the oil and EGR coolers replaced, install the EGR block off plate, get a tuner that disables the EGR valve and can tune the transmission to shift without self destructing, add an exhaust system, and you will have one sweet ride!
