Need Help Locating Parking / Running Lights Wire Under Dash

Hi, everyone. Can anybody help me locate the running lights under the dash of my 2000 F150 SuperCab XLT 5.4L 2wd (w/o factory keyless entry)? Under the mistaken assumption that it might be "kind of fun", I decided to install an alarm/keyless entry myself. Well, I think I finally have it all figured out and, using the wiring diagram supplied by the alarm manufacturer, have located every wire I need to splice into. Every wire, that is, except the parking (AKA running) lights. Theoretically, the alarm flashes the lights to confirm that you have locked the doors and activated the alarm. The wiring diagram indicates that I should be looking for a solid brown wire from the drivers side kick panel (?; seems to me that it would come from under the dash somewhere around the fuse box). Under the dash coming from the kick panel and/or steering column and/or fuse box, I have found brown wires with white stripes, brown wires with orange stripes, and brown wires with pretty Wedgwood blue stripes (none of which is hot with the parking lights on), but no solid brown wire.

I am wondering if anyone perhaps has a REAL wiring diagram or (even better) first hand knowledge of a good place to tap into that circuit. I hope that we are not talking about a two-inch wire that runs from the light switch to the fuse box right next to it that I would have to remove the dash to get to.

I have also considered splicing the wire from the alarm that is supposed to flash the lights into the horn wire instead of the parking lights wire. The theory being that instead of a couple of flashes of the parking lights I might get a couple of quick toots of the horn. Would this work? Any reason not to give it a try?

Well, I have probably have graphically illustrated my ignorance of electrical systems sufficiently. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The brown wire you are looking for should be accessable from many areas. It begins at the light switch running from there to the trailer tow illumnation feed, trailer tow running lamp relay (under hood box), both front lamps, rear lamps, and tag lights. Info. is from 2000 factory wiring diagrams manual. Anything else I can help with?
