2001 4x4

Hello i have 2001 ranger 4x4 4.0 sohc and i am having a problem with my 4x4.sometimes it will lock in and sometimes it won't. i can hear the motor on the transfer case trying to do something, but it just won't lock in, anyone had this problem please let me know,thanks kevin

Your hubs may have a vacuum leak or may just be dirty.

I don't think it works off of vaccum.

I should also add that the truck has been setting up for about 6 months,4x4 never gave me any trouble until it sit up.
