Alternator wiring question

Need help wiring up a 1984 Ford 3-wire alternator. Swapped the engine and the small white wire off the alternator came lose from the wiring harness and I don't know where it should hook up to. I have installed an ammeter between the alternator and positive side of the starter relay via the 10 ga. black with orange tracer wire, but it does not show a charge or discharge. This small white wire with possible black tracer has got to hook up somewhere. Can anyone please help me? Thanks.

Alternator wiring question

What is the wire attached to (which post on the alternator) ??

How many wires go to the regulator ??

Do you have a factory ammeter or a dash warning light ??

Is there a wire on the alternator STA post ??

Armed with the above knowledge, might be able to venture a guess.

Alternator wiring question

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Dec-01 AT 11:29 PM (EST)]Small white wire goes from the sta terminal on the alt to the connector on the carb for the electric choke.

Here's where you can find out about the ammeter.
