I was wondering how I could wire a small box with led's in it to my fuse box, so when a fuse would blow, the corresponding led would come on. A schematic would help. Thanks
If I remember correctly, most led's need 20ma of forward current and have a voltage drop of 1.2 volts. 12volts - 1.2volts = 10.8volts
E=Ixr 10.8volts divided by .020 amps = 540 ohms rounded off to nearest value = 560 ohms.
that's where I got 560 for the resistor value. That is assuming 12 volts, which your values would give a little headroom for higher voltage. 600 ohms isn't a standard value, I thought 560 was, but I just looked on an assortment I had and it went from 470 to 680. So I guess 680 would be a good choice along with the 1K.
Just asking here, but could you also put an led across the Load, say for instance right out of the Fuse block, and that way, when the Fuse Blew, the Led would go out! That might be a little easier to wire in.
The argument against this 'Status monitor way', is 'the Led would be on all the time' using a little current all the time. SO if you left the Truck in the Long term parking for a week, you might come back to a Discharged Battery.
That makes a pretty good case for the First suggestion!
Not exactly what you want but I noticed at parts store a "cap" that fits ontop of a fuse and if the fuse blows it lights up. Not as nice as what it sounds like you want but it does make it easy to tell when a fuse is blown.
