Upgrading Alternator
My '81 E-150 I-6 4.9L is struggling with producing sufficient power for the manyh electrical accessories I've added. (C.B. & Linear, High Power Stereo w/power amp., High output Halogen Headlamps, etc. and I'm finding that my ammeter guage is occasionally quivering-still on charge but I'm also noticing my headlights and dash lights abruptly dimming in conjunction with this occasional oscillation of my ammeter. I suppose this could be the regulator shunting on and off so I am proposing upgrading my alternator to a 70 amp. unit available here. I was informed that a heavy output 90 or 105 may be so excessive to the stock wiring that I may do more harm than good by installing one of these higher output alternators. Any guidance would be well appreciated! Thanks!
