Has anybody noticed that the number of radio ads has gone through the roof lately? Maybe it is just clear channel (which owns most of the stations in my area) but it is 45 minutes of commercials to every 15 minutes of music. The worst part is that the commercials are always the same annoying crap. Then, after the commercials you have the stupid DJ blabbering about the radio station's website and other crappy promotions.
I'm in the twin cities, and I think it's been like this for a while. Not really any different than the TV.
Did hear a DJ once comparing today to the 60's, in songs per hour. It was pretty amazing. Although with the crappy AM radios we had, I didn't know the real lyrics for a lot of songs until years later!
What I do hate about the single owner of multiple stations is the cross plugging. Drives me nuts to listen to one station and hear a commercial for a different one.
I don't have it (yet) but satellite radio fixes that problem methinks.
I've been annoyed with the amount of ad time for a looongg time. What can you do?
You got that "Jack" computerized BS going in your area?
What is the "Jack" computerized BS?

Usually these days I do CDs
Hmm, maybe I am losing it. It just seems that lately it has gotten really bad. KQRS is the only station worth listening to anymore as they aren't loaded with the ads like the others.

I thought about XM but I have a problem with paying for radio not to mention the extra gear and whatnot.
I was scanning and found a station that plays classical music with no commercials ..... it now has my number 1 select button. I have upgraded my system by adding an amp, upgrading my speakers and adding a woofer ..... sounds good.
I bought my first XM radio the week before I could activate it. Installed it and had it activated the first day I was eligible to do so. Rarely have listened to the tired old terrestrial radio junk since.
There's a reason "free" radio is free: it's because its an advertising medium. The broadcaster supplies content in the hope of attracting listeners who will also listen to the ads. Pretty simple concept.
A lot of stations here are ClearChannel as well, and they definitely have excessive commercials. They keep saying how they have less commercials and more music, but lately it seems to be the exact opposite

98.7 the Peak in Phoenix plays more songs, less B/S and once they play a song, they dont play it again that day!

I got rabbit ears and a converter box...I do have cable broadband!
When the ads come on I change the station. If I don't find anything good I'll plug in a CD.

Thats what I do, I just put a nice sound system in my garage and in both of my trucks and it really annoys me when you have it cranked up and a stupid commercial comes on screaming at me and I am tripping over stuff trying to get to the **** to turn it down or change the channel.
I couldn't even tell what the commercials are as they are just as bad as static to me
