Ford introduced the Mustang as a '64 1/2 in April, 1964. I recall all the advertising. It wasn't the consumer. All '64 1/2 year Mustangs were considered 1965 models as the first number (VIN) on all '64 1/2 Mustangs were stamped with the numeral '5' which signifies a car that is a 1965 model year.

Ford introducing half year models was not unique, as they introduced the fastback Ford Galaxy as a '63 1/2. It also came out in the spring of the year. But in this case it was a 1963 model. I would think the reason Ford designated it as a '63 and not a '64 model, was because of the significantly different styling change the '64 underwent from the '63 model.

There was no change...body wise, that I know of, between a '64 1/2 and a '65 model Mustang, except that the '65 fastback first came out with the rest of the '65 model line, not as a '64 1/2 model. The intro '64 1/2's came out only as the regular hardtop and the convert.

But there's more. I'm pretty sure my buddie's '89 Mustang has a FoMoCo 25 th Anniversary plaque on the dash, which makes you think, if it is a 1989 (which it is) then Ford must be counting 25 years...from 1964, rather than 1965. Maybe FoMoCo did this because the car was intro'd in 1964 as a '64 1/2 (Ford's advertising campaign when introducing it), but built as a '65?

You're welcome, preppypyro. I still recall the first Mustang I saw, a white convertible with a 260 V8. It was very late April in 1964, in Winnipeg and I was a kid on my bicycle.

It was one of those cars that made a real big impression on me.

The other one that made a big impression was the first 1965 Corvette, with the big block V8. 396/425 hp, side exhausts, 4 speed.

I was still a kid and I recall asking him if we would lay some rubber. He did. In first gear and second gear. This was on Portage Ave. (the main street) in Wpg.

Four of us, although my current main ride, the FWD Buick doesn't go sideways....not becoming for a Buick sedan, after all. But it does move out quickly, for a relatively heavy car.

But I do recall, with some fondness, steering with the rear wheels, in the snow, on my old V8 powered, rear wheel drive Impala and our '76 Ford Granada 302 V8. -This Icon is as close as I can come to wheel spinning.

One of the neighbours (with a pair of quads) off a grid road like to make many daily U-turns at the end of their driveway on the grid road leaving some fairly big ruts all the way across the grid.
I don`t really enjoy the dang speed bumps this causes...........
