i have a 2004 f-350 crew cab that i bought new. i have started having problems with the tranny. sometimes it has a 10 to 15 second delay when you put it in drive or reverse and other times it has no delay at all. the tranny shifts just fine once it is in gear and it does not slip at all. the truck only has 42,000 miles on it. the truck does have a edge programer on it and 35'' tires that i put on when i first got it.what could be going on with it? i was thinking it could be a solenoid but i'am not a tranny guy. thanks for any help you can give me.
#1. The edge does NOT do anything good for the 5R110 transmission. Plug in "fuel" boxes can't properly tune the transmission. In other words......get rid of it and get an SCT.
#2. Sounds like it's a solenoid problem. Have your transmission flushed or change the oil and filters. You don't have very many miles on an 04, but you should have had it flushed/serviced at least once by know, especially running bigger tires and "that" programmer. There are new/improved solenoids available. it's a not uncommon for it to happen.
I had the same problem you spoke about on my 04 f-350 4x4. Had some of the solenoids replaced. Worked good for awhile. Started doing it again. Ended up having the torque converter ballon out and the tranny went completly dead while towing a 7000lb trailer. I now have a new tranny in it with a 75,000 mile warranty from ford. That happened at 54,000 I have 78,000 on it now with no problems
