Are we talking about the needles being faded?
You can buy fluorescent red paint at hobby shops. It's available for RC cars. I repainted the needles on all my gauges and just cleaned them up inside and they look pretty nice.
Women's nail polish (yes, that's what I said), is what restoration shops usually use. New gauges are not that tough to find.
Hey Bill what color nail polish? I've got gauges that could use a touch up.
Depends on the gauge. Back in the dark ages (1960's) when there was no special paint for needles, I'd just take a gauge to a dept stores cosmetics counter and start comparing nail polish colors.
The sales gals thought I was nuts. They were right then, and things haven't changed much.
I was visiting a well known auto resto shop in VA a coupla years ago, and there on a shelf were dozens of colors of nail polish.
To recap:
Why do you need your gauges rebuilt?
Why do you think you got screwed?
What color nail polish Bill?
And .... GOT ANY PICTURES? We all love more pics of Slicks!
Thanks for the decode Bill. Well, the guy I bought this truck from isn't a close friend, but he has a good reputation. And I took it on his word that it was a 352. I guess I should've known better. I'll look twice at his stuff from now on.
As far as the guages go, they don't work. The finish on the panels and needles are still looking good. I didn't know about the cluster voltage regulater.....that may be all I need. I just need to find it.
I'll get some pictures up as soon as I set up the photo bucket.
Any truck that drives is worth $400! It's just about worth that in scrap.
The regulator for the gauges is a small rectangular box in the center of the cluster - not sure how you test it though. You could have a bad connection/wire to the gauge voltage regulator too. Ground is through the attaching screws, so the dash has to be installed (or grounded with a jumper) for them to work.
