Solenoid keeps going out

I have a 1980 F150 with the 300 I6. I just replaced the starter and solenoid a little over a month ago. Last weekend, I went to start it and it wouldn't start and when I let go of the ignition, the starter was still trying to start the engine. It did this until the battery went dead. I replaced the solenoid and charged the battery and it ran fine for a couple days and did the same thing. I then took back the old solenoid (Borg Warner) and switched it out for a motorcraft. Then today, the solenoid wouldn't disengage AGAIN. Can anyone shed some light on how to fix this permanently?

You might try the Electrical forum....I'm leaning more to the ignition switch.

I'm thinking you ignition switch is sticking as well. Was it still going even after you removed the keys?

Disconnect the small wire from the solenoid. If it stops cranking then its a wiring or ignition switch problem. If it keeps on cranking it has to be the solenoid. I've had several new solinoides that were new, but bad lately.
