[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Jan-02 AT 02:19 AM (EST)]It has a fairly sophisticated map of rpm/O2 sensor/water temperature, and other things to adjust the air/fuel and timing. Most of the map comes from a ton of testing the manufacturers do to cover almost all running conditions. (this assuming your truck has fuel injection)
One of the examples I remember reading is that the fuel injection system on the ZL1 Corvette (I think) was advanced enough that the engine would start within two revolutions down to something like -30deg, all because the fuel injection system/computer knows how much fuel it needs at that temperature to start.
