57/60 Bed Interchange Compatibility
57/60 Bed Interchange Compatibility
Im wondering what is the Interchangeability of the 57 thru 60 F100 Fleetside Bed with other trucks? I know the 57/60 F100's have a narrower frame rail or body width than the newer Fords (almost compareable to a late model mid size P/U) so my question is what other trucks are out there that share the same (or close to same) dimensions. The Idea here is for accesories and not a bed swap, i.e. Bed Liners, Tonnuea Covers, shells, tool boxes, etc. etc. Has anyone figured out what truck bed is similar, i.e. Dodge Dakota, Chevy Colorado, etc. etc.
Thanks In advance everyone

HI Dan,
That's and interesting question! I don't know for sure. But since all the step side trucks used the same bed from 53-72, I would venture to guess that the frames are all the same size, and the fleetside beds should exchange too - that is of course if the mounting points were not changed between years,

As J.C. states, the beds for the STYLESIDE & FLARESIDE (FoMoCo Trade Marks, as Fleetside & Stepside are GM trade marks) are the Same till '72, so you shouldn't have a problem finding what you Desire.
Uh...Col.,I believe that while the flareside beds may have been the same through 72,the styleside beds, excluding the unibody trucks of course, were the same only from 57-63 or there abouts.Am I not correct?
Thanks, "Col. 'F'"!
J!
PS I'd hate to be accused of being a "Verbal Darksider." Tee hee - Boley would never let me live it down!
I bought a bumper off of a 62 F100 and yeah I remember that the frame rails where the same width, the bumper was much wider though. I had a crossbox (toolbox) when I bought the truck and fit perfect but Im sure when the person bought it from whereever it was'nt for a 58 Ford fleeetside. But I am thinking the dimension may be close to something like a dodge dakota. Im just looking for accesories for the bed from the junkyard. Maybee a bedliner for now, till i can afford a wood floor kit.
Not Really...
Flairside, Stepside, Fleetside, Darkside, Inside, Outside, Flipside or whatever...
Only the **** retentive really give a hoot. A hundred years from now it won't matter.

The 1957/50 Styleside bed was also used on the following:
1961/66 F350's.
1961/65 F100/250's with 4WD & 1966 F250's with 4WD.
Some 1963 F100/250's with 2WD.
Ford introduced a new Styleside bed in 1964. It was used on 1964/66 F100/250's with 2WD, and 1966 F100's with 4WD.
The Styleside bed changed again in 1967. It was used on all 1967/72 F100/250's with or without 4WD and all F350's.

They look the same, but are not quite the same:
F100 Flareside pickup beds are not all the same from 1953 thru 1972. 1953/56's are unique.
1957/60's use a few underbody components as 1953/56's, but all the external sheet metal including the fenders is different.
1961/72's use a different front panel and bed sides than 1957/60's do.
These differences relate to how the beds mount to the frame, the wheel opening radius, plus the structural integrity was enhanced.
The wood used on the bed floor is the same 1953/72. These wood floors were originally painted the color of the truck.
btw: the 1957 rear fenders were used thru 1979. Everything else on the 1973/79's Flaresides is 1973/79 only.

Later Man...
So here's a pic of my bed folks....pretty nasty heh?
here's my .02 cents.....Old Cars Price Guide refers to em as a Styleside, and step sides are refered to as Flaresides.

If some ppl here want to drive a Ford truck around town wth a Chebbie bed on it, that's their problem!
The only buzz I hear is the one in my ears from the Arty Barrages that landed short when they shouldn't have.
OK, I give... you can have it...
