I was just trying to distinguish between the bedstyles to try to help someone with a completely different subject - and learned some stuff I never knew before - that's why we are here right?
Is all the semanticizing really that important?
(Maybe I shouldn't ask this but...)
If your wife asks you to hand her a Kleenex, do you turn and tell her she needs to properly ask for a Kimwipe? (without getting slapped)
"Hey honey, where's the Q-tips?" "We don't have any dear, we use 'Johnsons Swabs'"
"Please pass the butter." "It's not butter, dad! It's lactose free margerine type oleo spread"
"Better put a Band-Aid on that cut." "Wi don nid no stinkin' "Bond Eds" - We gots Curads"
Giggle - you guys sound more like girls than girls sometimes - honestly!
The wife & I ask for a "Tissue", a "Swab", a "Bandage"/"Plaster", the "Butter", Margerine" or Oleo", it's not really all that complicated, really it isn't, as these all perfectly acceptable Generic terms for these products.
If you wish to have a Specific product, That's What You Ask For, a Ford/Mercury Styleside/Flareside, not a Ford/Mercury Fleetside/Stepside.
And I DOUBT very seriously that you'd ask for a Ch#@y Styleside/Flareside or Land-o-Lakes Margerine or Blue Bonnet Butter or a Cessna Thunderbolt or a Pepsi Zero, no such products. And if you state that you would, you'd be fibbing.
And every time you use Fleetside or Stepside as a Generic term, especially around those that are New to all this & ignorant of the proper trade marked terminology, established by FoMoCo & GM, you'll be doing the same disservice that a lot of researchers are Guilty of. Not chequing the Source material to see if it's accurate or not, there by propagating a Falsehood as a Fact.
See Julie...
I guess he told you. Oh how wonderfull it must be to live in a perfect world. Wait a minute... There is no such thing. Hmmm,,, So that's how he made it finger lickin' good. WHOOPS ! Sorry, I meant finger licking good.

Hey Julie,
I just checked, my '53 has a Droopside, 'cause one side is lower than the other. ...Must be a product of RUSTOCO. Look that up in your Ford & Wagnal...
I'll remember these mocking comments when you call me up the next time and want me to translate some ebay listing for old greasy parts, that prolly came out of some dealers warranty bin!
Some guy P/M'd me a while ago, he wanted me to look at a "new" Eaton P/S pump on ebay that was in the original box...LOL...the box had an RO number on it!
RO number = the repair order number, which dealers always marked on defective parts because Ford may want them returned.
What was in that box, was the original pump out of some persons old rolling pile of misery.

Looks as if you never left the High School Jock mentality behind of attempting to put another individual down just to make yourself feel adequate.
