I found the problem!!!
So there's a bracket that the hot from the alt is bolted to and links to the voltage regulator and also to the alt gauge. well, the bracket thing broke and the wires were hitting the frame. So it was shorting out the system which is what fried the gauge. so when I disconnected the gauge and connected the wires together and held the wires in the bay off the frame I had power, lights work and everything, but when i turn the key... not even a smidgen of cranking... so maybe low battery, but what I need is to know if anyone knows what that bracket thing is called and where I can get a new one!

oh, another problem that i know is part of it, frayed naked wire going from starter to solenoid, but it hasn't given me problems till now. and I've had the truck running for like a year now. I think... maybe like 8 months.
