The first time it did that I tapped the starter and it didnt help.
I pushed and pulled the gear shift out of park a few times and it started fine?
It did it again yesterday and I slammed the gear shift around and tapped the starter.
It still wouldnt go ..................I was 300 miles from home so I tryed it some more and finally it just started normaly?
So I get up the road 100 miles or so and the overdrive light starts flashing?
Transmission seems to be working fine (its only 1 year old) but the lights flashing.
Does anyone think they might be connected and Im having problems in my steering column ?
Its not batteries or anything like that , it seems to be i9n the ignition.
If it doesn't recognize that it's in park, it will do that.
One of my work trucks has the same problem. It's just a beater truck so I've never fixed it. Maybe someone who has messed with it can chime in on how to repair it.
I've messed with this problem on many different vehicles. It is the safety switch that makes sure that the vehicle is in either in Park or Neutral. On some vehicles you can loosen a screw and readjust the position of the switch so it works correctly after it has worn over the years.

The blinking OD light is usually bad news...do a search and you will find a ton of threads about it. BTW, sorry isn't needed...I thought you were just being lazy .
I replaced the position sensor/switch, whatever you want to call it, when this happened to mine, didn't know adjusting it would help with this problem... I think it was about $60 at a dealership.
