yeah i thought so too, and that is the base "street" engine. I have been searching for turnkey engines online forever and found that I can get a 350hp 302 turnkey from engine factory or a keith craft 302 turnkey for 6500 bucks...which is alot I thought but for 1400 more bucks I could get 500hp and 500 tq hmmmm......
I think this engine wouldnt have any trouble with that considering it has a 4.00 inch stroke, plus my truck is already set up for a SBF, but thanks for the advice. Your truck looks great by the way
lol yeah I know but get this, on a cobra forum there are guys with this same engine and they told me they were getting 12mpg in city and 16mpg hwy. They said it would vary with how much they kept their foot into it of course. Plus there cars weigh 2500 pounds where my truck would weigh 3000 or so cause of all the fiberglass ill be using. stock curb weight for my truck I read once on here(1951 1/2 ton) was like 3500 pounds.
reed1951, I have a 51-f1 with a LT1, 700r4 ,10bolt camaro rear, 4 wheel disc, 16" steel wheels with no floor in bed, no tailgate and 1/2 tank of fuel and 4 glass fenders and it weighs 2917 pounds.
I will have a tilt fiberglass front end on mine and fiberglass rear fenders, c4, possibly the 408 windsor?, 15" steel wheels, and 9" inch rear end from 85 pickup(yes it is wide) when I'm done, if yours weighs that much then I guess I chould expect it to weight at least 3500 pounds huh with the windsor. Your aluminum block helps alot with weight huh? is that weight you posted with you in it or out. I weigh 235 so I know it will weigh it down more.
scratch that, lt1's arnt aluminum
how much do you think mine would weigh with my setup?
reed1951, the weight is without anyone in it,i'll do you one better than just a weight slip, it was weighed at all four corners, left front 954# right front964#, left rear 495#, right rear 558#, can't explain the weight difference of the rear end weight, 63# difference from left to right, rear end pumpkin is in center and fuel tank is inside frame and is square tank but gives you some good numbers, Garry---aka--- HOMADE
Nice engine, but you'll have to make a decision on what you need, not what you want. otherwise, you will keep finding better/bigger engines that cost more and more and then... you get the picture. You don't want to be like the guy at the cruise last friday. He has finally opted to put a jet engine in his pickup!! It's out of a helicopter!! Way loud But, plenty of HP. Jag
good point...I do want to drive the truck as often as possible but I still wouldnt leave it the walmart parking lot while I went in to buy something you know. I guess what I mean is I will drive it places but not really park it where I can't see it. I would only really drive it to work a few days a week, to some local shows, and maybe the one in knoxville tn. (2 hours away) but that would prolly be it.
but if you want cubic inches, look at the offerings from Roush engines.
he has some nice windsor based 427 ci engines for sale. up to 650hp for the top one. don't know the cost, but paint them factory Ford Blue with some cheap chrome valve covers and tell people it is just a lowly warmed over 302 youhave under the hood, that is until you hit the pedal.
but i think they are not cheap. ooh, well can always dream.
reed1951 you are doing what i did. started out with a stock 302 ended up with a351w bumped out to 427. got mine from t and l in no carolina. came with everything, flywheel,ps pump, alt, ac pump, march kit 7 qt oil pan and all the chrome and alum. i wanted.
