Can someone please tell me about these. I am a novice at stereos. So im learning here. Someone tell me you can put 500 tunes on this thing is this true? Is it hard to dowload songs to this from my computer? Sorry for all the questions. Im just trying to learn here. How do i go about installing this in my vehicle? Thanks for any help.
Ipods are small devices that have a large memory. You can transfer songs fromyour compputer, but there are restrictions. They have to be either some that you buy from the ipod store ( on the internet), or some that you have in mp3 or other format, that don't have any 'license' associated with them.
( I'm just giving an overview)
They can't be installed in a car as such because they can only power headphones by themselves. However, some car stereos have accessory jacks. You can get cables that will let you plug your ipod into your stereo.
For more details find a 10 year old. He/She will be able to tell you more about them than any human could want to know!
I just put new stereos in my Capri and truck that had acc. jacks for MP3 players. It's real nice in the truck since it rides so rough I can't listen to CD's. My 2000 stang has the MACH460 stereo which I dont want to mess with so I just use a cassette adapter with it. I got a ZUNE instead of an IPOD. I have several friends with IPOD's and they all told me not to get one. My ZUNE is super easy to use and lets me put anything I want on it. If you dont feel like spending big money on a name brand MP3 player, you can always get one of the smaller off brands for less that will work just as well. I had a small SANSA MP3 player before I got my ZUNE and it was even easier to use. No software to install, if you can use windows media player then you can load the MP3 with no problems.
I wired my head unit (panasonic) all the way through to the seat so the adapter comes out of the arm rest, and tucks away nicely when not used.
Just about every aftermarket head unit has at least 1 aux input that you can wire up to a 3.5mm plug, which is what every mp3 player uses.
Here is the deal with the MP3 players (of which the iPod is one of):
-There is a dirty little thing called DRM (standing for Digital Rights Management) which limits how you can use the songs you download. If you download songs for your iPod from iTunes (the easiest way to do it) you can't really do much else with them besides put them on your iPod. If that is all that you can ever forsee yourself doing with them, then great! It's a simple way to buy music and listen to it in your car easily. Some stores (such as amazon) sell DRM-free music that you can use as you please. This is what I do with my iPhone (which is an iPod) but it's an extra step.
-If you have alot of CDs that you want to listen to on your iPod, then you can transfer them all to your iPod and listen to them all without problem.
-And yes, they can hold hundreds, even thousands of songs.
I think the number of people who have bought mp3 players and been disapointed with them is very, very small.
Ahh i wish i had a cassette player an record directly from the radio an replay them at my convenience an wouldnt cost a thing. Is there a CD I can record on from the radio.
Record the radio and listen to it later.... Hhhhmmm.
No.
Some radio programs re re-broadcast on the internet, and can be downloaded as an mp3 file. You could download them and listen that way. These would be your Rush Limbaugh type programs, and (at least in LA) some local radio shows. If you just want to listen the music, weather & local news from Tuesday on Thursday, you can probably set that up a home.
Record the radio... Hey, my brother & I did that. In 1967. I also did it in the '80s when they played albums all the way through w/o commercials. (KLOS Los Angeles, 95.5, Sunday nights, "The Seventh Day") Until I played one back and realized it wasn't going to work very well with the primitive equipment I had....
which allows you to legally record internet radio, but its at a bad bitrate.
In my younger years I tried everything, I pirated music when the p2p networks were huge, I've recorded radio, just about everything. I've come to the conclusion that the best way to get music is through the Amazon music store, its easy, convenient, and you aren't stealing intellectual property.
I was just in a car with satellite radio. It had a provision for downloading from the satellite. I bet the sound quality is better than a K-mart microphone in front of a Radio Shack speaker....

I know XM has this, they have a player that records up to 10 of your favorite songs so you can play them back whenever. Only problem is that its one of those units that you plug into the cig lighter, and not integrate into the head unit, which is lame in my opinion...
