Another 6.0 question
I have an '04 Excursion with 95,000 miles on the 6.0. It is doing the surging, rough running, and sometimes completly shutting down. I cleaned the EGR with no change, so I unhooked the EGR and removed the butterfly valve. Again, no change. I removed and cleaned the EBP sensor (it was almost completly sealed off) and pipe.......it might have helped a little, but it might also be wishful thinking. It is still surging and running rough. It only does it after the truck reaches operating tempature, and it is worse on hot days.
I have read on here something about cleaning the MAP sensor. I see in the bible that it is an electrical componet, but where is it? Do you think that this might be the problem?
I need to pull my tractor up the mountain on Saturday, and I am almost afraid too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nate

Do you have an OBDII code reader? If you don't pull up to a parts store , and ask them to check if you have any DTCs. Even with your engine light not on, you could have some codes, and that would help to solve your problem....
I keep the oil changed every 5K with Rotella 15-40, and I just changed both fuel filters 2 weeks ago for the second time.
Thanks for the help,

Friday evening I hooked the EGR back up and re-installed the butterfly valve. When I pulled off the elbow, it was soaked with oil. Not sure why, another problem?
Anyway, I hooked up to the tractor (around 10k #'s) and took off up the mountain in tow/haul mode. 150 miles later, I am back home and it never once bobbled. Ran like a top, pulled like a dream.
I guess the next test is to drive it around town for a day and see what happens.
Thanks again for the help,
Nate
I normally use Motercraft oil filters, but when I changed the fuel filters I used Fram. This may be a stupid question, but I have never had to worry about using stock filters on any other vehicle I have owned. Will it change the pressure enough to cause problems?
