Need some help. Im installing factory foglights on my 2002 F-150. Everything is going good except the part where you attach the red/black wire to the red/yellow wire on the dimmer switch, but which red yellow is it. there are 2 of them, ive tried both of the with no success on getting the lights to working.
I am asumming the wire you are trying to hook up goes to a fog lamp on-off switch, and then goes to a fog lamp relay? If so, what happens when you hook this wire to a 12 volt source? I am thinking if the fog lamps don't work when they are hooked to a constant 12 volt source, then your problem must be in the new wiring you just installed.
The wiring harness im using is from a 1999 kit i got from ford. i have tried hooking it directly up to a 12v power source & nothing happened except the indicator light that shows the fog lights are on is illuminated, even if the switch is not pulled out. the only problem i can find is that the wires to the relay that the red & yellow are reversed from the wiring diagram i have.
Well, apparently there is a problem with the fog lamp wiring and not the proper connection to the dimmer switch. I don't know how it's wired but I can take a guess. Get a test light or a voltmeter. When you hook 12 volt up to the switch, the 12 volt should pass through the switch when it is turned on. Then I am assuming the 12v will go to the coil on the relay. When the fog lamp switch is activated, the relay should click. If it doesn't, and you have 12v coming from the switch, figure out where the coil connection is on the relay. The 12v from the switch should go to one side of the coil, and the other side of the coil should go to ground to complete the circuit.
