Autozone urggg...

So I went down to autozone to pick up a part for my work car (intrepid) today.

I can go into autozone and buy a fartcan muffler for my car. I can buy 500 neons and light it up like a Christmas tree, heck I can even buy a huge friggen sticker to put across the windsheild that says "intrepid" but they dont have actual parts for the car.

It kinda drives me nuts that my local "parts store" has become more of a "customizing store" (that is if you call putting the same thing that everyone else has on your car)

Your right about that, only thing good about it is the autozone reward card.

I use NAPA. I have bought stuff from Autozone, plugs & wires & stuff like that. I needed a alt tested & 2 Autozone's later I ended up at NAPA.

Autozone is good for the Sunday "oh crap I need this basic part" run. I use Napa otherwise, just wish they were open as much as autozone and all the others are.

It's all in the timing, me thinks.

NAPA can get the part I need...for $35, and maybe they'll have it by Saturday.

Autozone lists the part for $23, and told me they would have it today.

It depends on the store as well. The one there in Waterloo is going to be a PITA due to their lower volume. If you were to come all the way down to Cedar Rapids on the south side, you might do better, but the biggest problem is corporate decides what parts to stock, not the local managers... my biggest gripe is that we stock only one part for many vehicles, and only get shipments once a week, otherwise, we have to get it drop shipped, stupid if you ask me. We also don't tend to stock common things as well. I had to go to O'Reilly's to get a caliper for my 92 F350 because we don't stock them at all any more...

I can't even go into a autozone, got 86 out of one. Either go to Napa or advance auto.

I'm a big fan of Napa, I also like Rock Auto's website as well. I get most parts online nowadays. I get tired of driving from store to store in the heat on a wild goose chase.

That's why many have internet sites, as well as telephones on the common stuff. When you get into something you have to compare to be right, then you have no choice but to drive, but with the websites most of the companies have, you can look up your own part, and see if it is available at the store, then you could pick up the phone and have them check to see if that part number is actually there... no gas involved at all.

For big purchases I use the net.

If I need something right now I go to Advance because if they dont have it they can get it by the next morning, or if you order it early they can get it that evening.

I go to Autozone for little things like bulbs and other little things I rather not buy there parts because they can never seem to get the right parts. Although I try to spend over $20 at a time so I can use my rewards card

We just got our first Oriellys last year and things seem to be pretty cheap there in price but the two stores we got here the employees dont know squat, so they dont get much business from me...

I like NAPAs quality in parts and people that actually know something without looking it up on a computer but man there prices are way to much...The store dont stay open long enough, I think they open at 9am and close at like 6pm and 3pm on weekends....

Here latelly when I go to Advance I look up the parts myself on there computer since they have one for that use now, or I check things on my computer and get the part numbers and only have to get them to find the part...

I usually prefer Advance because they are 2 min from my house and their corporate HQ are an hour away so I can PDQ anything and have it next day.

I never go to Napa...

Besides the fact that none of them around here ever have displayed prices on ANYTHING (which really bugs the hell out of me), they're only open until 5 pm which is when I get off work.

And unfortunately, if I really need a part I usually can't wait until Saturday to get it.

Ohh... i did in fact get my part on friday, and put it in on saturday morning. Thank goodness it worked. So the intrepid is fully functional again. YAY 210,000 miles on her and still haven't had any major problems yet. (unless you count my fiance crashing it)
