Modify front bench seats?

I'm shopping for a new SD, but cannot find the color I want with captain's chairs. I want the captain's chairs mostly because of the storage console between the drive and passenger seats.

Does anyone know if the center section of the split bench will come out separately? If it does, I could perhaps find a console bin from an aftermarket place.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I am basing my response on my 2005 f250 CC.

40/20/40 seats with a fold down center console/seat definitely has a separately removable center console.

The seat belt (receiving part stuffed under my love handles) portions for the driver and passenger chairs are attached to their respective chairs, so no problems their.

As I have pulled and recovered all of the seats just last week with 2008 OEM covers I cant see why the 2008 chair arrangement would be any different.

I can say the only problems you might have with an after market affair is that the front factory center console brackets go under the inside driver and passenger seat brackets. Without them, there might be a fitment problem with the back weldnuts/studs.

You can always find a bunch of 2008 factory take out center consoles on Ebay.

Good luck.

Yes, the center section is a separate piece that can be removed and swapped out with a factory console. As suggested, keep a eye out on e-bay for them as they are very expensive at the dealer...

I put captains chairs front and rear in my 04 with 08 center consoles. Only mild mods to make them fit. removed the factory armrests. front console bolted right in. rear console required a custom bracket but no big problem.

Factory armrests

Do I understand you correctly - you removed the factory armrests from 2008 leather captain's chairs?

I wonder if they would mount onto the sides of the 2008 bench seats if the center fold-down section was removed. Any thoughts?

If that would work and you still have the armrests, maybe we could work a deal. It sounds like a long shot, but I'm trying to work backwards to get the captains chairs/center console in a new truck, and I just can't find one in a new truck for sale.

'08 captains chairs do not have armrests. The console is considered the armrest. I am assuming TJ used earlier captains with '08 consoles...

I removed the armrests from some 05 seats I found in a junk yard and got them re-upholstered. Then used the 08 consoles as arm rests.

Power point in console

Any way (any easy way, that is) to hook up the power point in the console if I switch out the middle seat for the console? I'd guess the wiring harness has that lead somewhere close - if I could find it.

Thanks!

I ran a wire under the carpet to the existing power point.

I have 99-04 style front 40/20/40 with the center section removed and an 08 console installed.

I'd look for the color you want and specifically try and find the 40/20/40 seat and put the 08 console in. It is a much bigger & better console than the previous one. And you don't have to dick around with the armrest stops from the old style capt's seats to put it in.
