I've got a '94 F150 with the 300 straight six. My oil pressure gauge is nothing more than a glorified idiot light. It reads about two thirds of the way up all the time until there is no pressure at all then it goes to zero. I was told by some Ford engineers that they decided to do this because too many people were bringing thier trucks in for warranty because the pressure was fluctuating (which is normal). I would like to convert my OEM gauge back into a real guage by swapping out the oil pressure switch with a variable resistance sending unit.
Did Ford ever make the F series with real guages. If so, what year trucks are included. I'm hoping that I can just buy a sending unit from an older truck and swap it out. I realize that my gauge has a resistor on it so it can work with a switch and I'm ready to remove or change that resistor.
No they were all those fixed resisters.
To change to a real guage, there is a Shunt to cut, and a Resistor to add up in the Dash Printed circuit board.
Then you get an oil sending unit for a an old 460, and your in business.
I'll try to find that post. I came off a different Forum, and I'll repost it. If nobody beats me to it.
