I'm want to buy an f-150 supercrew and my brother has a ford explorer and he has had a lot of trouble with it!! Is is the explorer transmission like the Ford-150's?? has anyone had any trouble!! thanks!!
Purchased a 2001 F150 Supercrew last December. On Saturday (3/10), while travelling on an interstate, I lost 3rd gear in the auto transmission. Fortunately, it occurred within 5 miles of the dealer. The truck has 10,900 miles on it. A service technician drove the vehicle and indicated that "some of the clutch packs are gone". The service manager is not sure whether it will be a repair or replacement.
Needless to say, I am disappointed in the vehicle. Aside from the transmission problem, I have had other problems or defects:
- Upholstery seam rips.
- Frozen throttle cable on cold mornings (<32F). This has happened on numerous occassions, makes for an exciting start of the day.
- Exterior door handles are poor quality, drivers side handle is already bending out of position.
Based on my research prior to the purchase, the Ford F150's appeared to be the best deal. It now looks like the purchase may have been a $30K crap shoot.
