ignition switch
I have a 1989 F-150 4.9l. The ignition switch works fine until I turn it to start the motor. Then it gets real hard to turn. I changed the switch but it did not solve the problem. Anyone has any ideas before I tear apart the whole steering column? thx in advance.

You've got a resistance problem.
Clean off all ends of battery cables.(If the wires on the ends are corroded check back here)
Clean battery posts well.
Clean the grounding attachment of the starter solenoid to body.
If it still is hard to turn over:
With the key in the OFF position take a wire from the + post of Battery and touch it to the S terminal of solenoid.
See how well it turns over.
Check back here with results.

It's probably the actuating rod coming from the switch down to about the dash.
You will probably have take the steering wheel >Horn Ring, etc off to have a close look to see if something hasn't broken or is out of adjustment with that linkage.
