OP posted 581 / Decoded above.

Letters (for the most part) refer to a Custom Cab, numbers (for the most part) refer to a Standard Cab.

Thanks guys. Would the 6000 lbs be a Camper Special? or just everyday F-250?

We just went thru something similar recently.

The usual GVWR for F250 Camper Specials is 7500 lbs.

Then someone showed up recently with a '66 F250 CS with a GVWR of 4800 lbs. The truck was built in Canada, so some of us surmised it was a Canadian thing.

A week later, another '66 F250 CS showed up with the same 4800 lb. GVWR. This one was built in Atlanta.

Does your truck's front fender badges red inserts have Camper Special on them, or does it just say Twin-I-Beam?

I know this is a ridiculous way to ID it, but there's absolutely nothing on the Warranty Plate that decodes to whether an F100 or F250 is a Camper Special...or not.

The badges say "Twin I Beam". The truck has a helper spring, on top of the other leafs, that are original. It also has a hole on each side of the bed for saddle gas tanks, which are gone. Has some tie downs on the side of the bed as well for the camper which someone put on. I do not think it was a Camper Special myself, but I did not know they offered multiple GVW's. I knew of only the 4500 and 7500lb trucks.

The "helper" spring is not factory Ford original. It's prolly by Hellwig, a company that offered helper spring for many vehicles.

Ford offered what they called "Flex-O-Matic" suspension, but not until 1968.

Saddle tanks were never offered by Ford on any pickup. Beginning in 1967, Ford offered, as an option, a midship 25 gallon auxillary tank that was mounted under the bed, inside the left frame rail.

In 1973, Ford offered two auxillary tanks, one midship, one aft axle, both were inside the left frame rail.

Factory T shaped tie downs were first offered in 1968. Ford used the same type all the way thru the 1990's.

I know these trucks pretty well, because not only was I a Ford partsman for 35 years, I have a 1965 F100, which I bought brand new.

Here is a photo of the side holes. Looks choppy so must be aftermarket. I'll get a photo of the helpers for y'all to see. Truck must of had some owner installed work done. You can see in the bottom photo the piece they made to cover the fuel inlet through the bed.

It's most assurdly aftermarket because Ford didn't offer any auxillary tank until 1967.

The Fey Bumper Company installed many of these tanks for West Coast Ford dealers and owners alike.

Bill is correct on the saddle tanks definately...my 65 originally had some big rectangular suckers that were on either side fore of the wheel well with the necks going out the top rail curved area...made great seats when I was a kid riding in back I might add...but these were definately aftermarket add ons...my guess is back in the day when camping and all was becoming a popular thing there were many places that offered to add these things on to the trucks.

Somewhere I think I have some old pics of my truck back when I was a kid with the tanks intaleed...but again...it wasnt a factory setup at all.
The CS package is explained in crystal clear detail in my gallery folder of package compositions.

Homemade "shade tree" helper spring!

Ford Motor Company would never install a spring like that. Neither would any spring shop that was worth its salt.

It's dangerous for one thing, pure Mickey Mouse for another!

I will remove them while I'm restoring her. I want it to be as it should, not shade tree'd up! Thanks ND and CS65.
