3 Piece driveshaft question
I was thinking about using the front shaft off of another truck and having two slip joints. It would be: Transmission bolted to front shaft u-joint, Carrier bearing w/slip joint to second shaft, The second shaft with another carrier bearing & slip joint to the third shaft which is bolted to the axle.
The shop I was going to use to shorten my middle(old front shaft) to fit with the new 3rd said you cannot run two slip joints....they really didn't give a good reason why, other than that is not how to do it and that the middle shaft would move around too much.
I don't see how my setup would be any different than a two piece shaft with an automatic trans. This would have a slip at the trans and at the carrier, so in effect there is nothing to keep the front shaft from moving arround.
If anyone has experiance and can tell me either way, that my idea, well unconventional will work, or that it won't work and why I would really appreciate it.
(sorry for the long post)
