as some of ya know I just got a new TO ME 2000 F250 2000
it seems that the tail gate wont open, I read the owners manual it said the same key to start the truck will unlock the gate, however it seems like it's locking it but NOT unlocking it, I figure the rod is off inside the gate itself.
Wondering if anyone has any experance with this and how do I go about it ?
I had a rubber type bed liner that's screwed on. I pulled that off and sure enoulf I seen how to get to the latch. it looked like it just needed some wd40.
I also had a similar problem on my 99' where it would bindup and be very hard to open. I took off the access panel and found the connecting rods to be binding and little bent up. Figured that was more than likely the problem so I adjusted the rods and sprayed some white lithium grease on all the contacts points. No more problems. Also decided to do the same thing on my 90' and do a little pm on it too. Both tailgates are working very smooth. Good Luck!
Try not to use WD40 or any other liquid lubricant in your lock cylinders. They tend to gather dirt and dust and just make things worse after a while. Most car part stores sell little tubes of graphite for lubricating the lock cylinders, that is what you should use.
