I put new u joints in this weekend. Some nice lifetime gaurenteed precisions with greese zerks. Any ways this might have been there before so i dont know. But i have a clunk in the drive line.
If i hold the brake and put it into drive and bring the throttle up the drive line will clunk. and then be done. But if i then put it into reverse it will do the same thing. Only one time between transitions. Any ideas?
Sounds like the common noise that also shows up when you slow down, the accelerate and the trans drops back a gear. Try greasing the splines on the driveshaft yoke that goes into the tranny.
I will try that, but im thinking thats not it. I have had the spline issue before and this dosnt seem to be it. Its more of a poping noise than a clunk... to be exact... just a sharp pop...
Also will straight grease work or do i have to get the ford molylibdium grease or what ever it is...
I have the same problem and i was told by a very good trans mech that it was a clutch pack inside of the transmission that shifts back and forth and the c- clip that keeps it from hitting the case of the trans has wore out. when i did a trans flush it made mine knoc a little harder because it had a little more pressure running thru the lines. if you do a trans flush check the magnet inside the pan for little pieces of metal. i found a little rounded piece in mine (piece of the c-clip). i was told that the trans should last 50,000 or more miles so i havent fixed it, i'de rather listen to a little knock then pay over a grand to fix it.
ya, thats fine with me, i lost one tranny and i know that these are tough as sh** after what i put my first through and my current... i put this one in with 120k on the ticker for the tranny.... im going to pull 4500lb boat to the ozarks this weekend for some good fun and was worried for a bit..
no big deal, i know my ford wont let me down... has never done it yet.. and as far as im concerned, never will..
hi, i am not familiar with your truck model but i cured a similar noise by checking the torque on the wishbone to chassis bolts. hope this helps as it took me 18months to track the noise down. good luck bokker.
