My brother has a 2001 psd. I have a 2002 psd. He just repaired his powersteering pump lines. Here is the problem. (driver side wheel well)The rubber lines from the pump run along the frame and behind the shock area (2 lines) They rub on the metal part of the frame and eventually wear a hole through the lines from the constant rubbing action between the frame and the rubber line. When it wears through the power sttering fluid goes all over and you loose you power brakes and steering all at once, this is what happened to him. So I checked mine out today and sure enough i have a good portion missing from the constant rubbing action that is going on. What I am doing is putting some plastic hose protector over my hoses. Hopefully this will prevent any problems like this from happening. So betyter have a look guys and save yourself a big headache... Jeff
Be sure and check the flex portion of your brake lines while you're at it. The one going from the antilock unit to the left front wheel vibrated through and blew out on my 2000 Ex a couple of months ago. Fortunately, I was bleeding brakes after changing pads and rotors and wasn't moving when it happened, but I was a little puzzled for a few minutes when brake fluid started running out of the front of the truck.
nice reminder...i was told about this last summer...i took my kids old bike tire..cut it about a foot long and zip locked it on both hose around the shock tower.....working great so far.. keep in mind these hoses do move when pressure runs though them..make sure you have enouph room for them to move...
