If I stay below 70 (which is most of the time since fuel hit $4.25+) I get 18-18.5. I don't haul anything heavy very often and it's mostly interstate but I'd like to get 20+. I have a cold air intake and 4" exhaust but no chip (DP!) yet. How much improvemant do ya'll really get with the DP?
So heres what i find interesting... ALOT of people say that these truck dont get good fuel milage until "X" amount of miles on the motor. I have about 5000 on my new motor. I am averaging 18mpg. Thats about 50% hwy and 50% stop-&-go. Last week I pulled our three horse goose neck empty about 150 miles picked up three horses and drove back. I averaged 15mpg for the round trip. Trailer weighs in at about 2500LBS. Horses were a good 1600lbs each. So roughly towing 7300LBs. So in conclusion comparing to alot of people I'm doing pretty damn good! And thats without a tuner. When I get a DP with an econ tune ill be stoked!
The sad fact of life here is, that is the one thing you have to do before you complain about poor fuel mileage.
AMEN. Ive been setting the cruise at 60 for a while now, and watch everyone go by. Upto 17.25 mpgs myself, weighing in at 9k, 285 A/T tires, winch, etc.

It may not be very macho, but it truly is as simple as that. If you insist on the lead foot, don't complain. The better mileage is right there at your fingertips, or toetips. Whatever????
I tested it and dropping from 65mph (cruise) to 55mph(cruise) over the exact same route got me 1mpg. If I take it easy and keep it about 55-60 I get 17-19 with the family and camping gear, when I'm towing (38' goose @ ~12k) theres hills and other obstacles so the speeds and loads are erratic but for the past 2 years hand calculated I get exactly 10mpg. I can usually tell how much fuel is going in just by looking at the odometer.
I average 16-17 mpg empty with 50/50 hwy/city driving with the cruise set to 70-75 on the hwy. Towing the 12k lb 5th wheel I get between 10-11 at 70 on the hwy. Mods in signature and I have 3.73's out back. All calculations by hand.
I agree with Mark. It takes Horsepower to go faster. Horsepower = fuel. I can squeeze 15 MPG out of my 13,000 pound tool box if I keep my speed down to 55 and short shift
@2200 RPM. If I go back to normal driving, shifting @ 2800 and driving 70 MPH, My mileage drops back to 12 MPG.
I've checked fuel mileage twice- once was with only a dirt bike in the back going 80 mph/2200 rpm freeway and 65 mph/1900 rpm highway and I got 15.5 mpg. Then I checked with about 400 miles towing a couple thousand pounds on a trailer and a 150-200 empty and got 14 mpg. 99 F250 crew cab short box 4x4, 3.73 gears, auto trans, 285/75/16 tires.

I have an 01 f250, 4" lift with 35" tires. my speedometer reads about 7-10 miles slower then i am going. My "lie-o-meter" reads about 11.5mpg I have not calculated myself yet. anyone know if thats even close to right

The lie-o-meter is never even very close to accurate.
