I have a 1993 250XL with a electronical fuel system that has a Electrical surge that started the other day when i left my lights on and the battery went dead. I was told that you had to reset the computer. Could you please tell me how this is done. Thanks! Rusman63
You may have a bigger problem. You may have destroyed part of your diode assembly and possibly the regulator in your alternator.
The modern OEM alternators do not have the heat sink capacity in their diode assembly to take a constant heavy charge rate necessary to recharge a dead battery like the "older iron". The accepted practice with the new cars is to charge the dead battery with an AC powered electric battery charger. The new small frame OEM alternator systems like yours are built just to "maintain" the charge on the battery and supply the normal vehicle electrical loads.
Have your alternator checked at a good shop by an old timer that knows what he is doing.
When you install the new alternator check and clean ALL the connections. This includes the battery connections (which will reset your computer) and all of the wiring harness ground connections near the battery. Clean any starter relay connections also. Put silicone dielectric grease on all of the connections. I use white lithium spray on grease on my battery terminals and connectors.
