Does anyone know anything about Acer computers. My granddaughter needs one, and my budget is limited. I looked at the companies web sight, and they seem to have a decent product.jd
My dad tells me they suck, or at least they used to. I did buy a flatscreen monitor from them and havent had any problems with it.
You should also check out Dell, they have pretty good deals sometimes.

They have been around since the begining and some people like them and others I have talked with say the stink..
I don't see any of them from customers, but I had a friend who had one for his son and they had trouble with it and they said that the tech support was the worst.. He bought a new dell instead of having that fixed.
I had to goto their site looking for a driver for a new (3 month old) PC and I have to tell you I was not impressed.. after a while of searching I ended up user driveragent.com to get the driver..
That is poor support when you can't find a driver off of the manufacturers site..
I have a "cheapy" acer laptop that I bought just around a year ago. I use this thing all the time, I dont even use my desktop anymore. In the winter i take it with me to all our jobsites, and leases, and it gets lots of bumps and whatnot. The kepys are starting to show a little bit of wear, and one of the mousepad buttons has a scratch that is showing wear.
So far its been better then i ever expected. I paid around the 700ish dollar mark for it. It was decent sized, and so far it hasnt skipped a beat, except the one time vista messed up on me for no reason.
Im not sure if you were looking at a laptop or a desktop, but this one has impressed me so far, especially since when I bought it, it was only to be a cheapy used for a few months.
Im not sure if your looking at a desktop or a laptop either
back in 1998 I bought a IBM Aptiva and the motherboard was made by Acer. It was a 400 MHz Pentium II the big boy on the block at the time, cost me 2 thousand bucks. It would still boot up and run when I donated it to the thrift store last month.
Thanks for the replies. If I get one, it will be thru Circuit City, and any failures will be their problem. I did see that Acer has some connection to IBM, but don't know what that connection is exactly.
I know e-machines had a bad rep when they first came out, but they have been purchased by Gateway, and have improved. Maybe IBM owns part of Acer. Don't know???
I am looking for a desktop.
I have bought a couple of off brand products, Visio tv, and a Polaroid portable DVD player. I am happy with both. The DVD player has taken a beating as I gave it to the kids(6,7, and 9yr olds) two years ago and is still going.jd
