Shaky Idle / Choke
First, I recently put on the Edelbrock 1406 onto my 84 F250 460 and it came with the electric choke. On the motor, there was a "hot air tube" going to the cleaner that would operate the old choke... my question is, what should I do with the opening on the motor now that I went electric?
Second question is... I tuned my carb according to Edelbrock i.e. listenting to the idle drop then quarter turn in. So the Idle sounds good to me, but when I shift from park to reverse or drive, the truck's idle drops and the truck begins to shake like nuts. What's causing the shaking? It almost sounds like the idle drops to much and it wants to die...
I would not adjust the idle mixture till it drops, and then 1/4 turn more. I would adjust the mixture screws for the fastest idle possible. You have to keep going back and forth, and if the idle gets too high, turn the idle stop screw to slow it down, and keep adjusting the mixture screws till you get the engine speed the fastest. Then set the idle speed to spec.
Make sure when you set the idle speed, you do not have any vacuum going to the dist. If you have vacuum going to the dist, the idle speed is still a little bit high, and this can make the engine a little unstable.
