Today while driving my 04 SDCC 6.0l my overhead milage, outside temp and trip gauge quit working. It was on then off, then it went off, then came back on. It did this a couple of time and finally stayed off. It acted like a possibleplug issue.
Can anyone tell me where the plug for this gauge cluster is? Also which fuse this is on? I looked in my manual but didn't see anything specific so I'm guessing it's a part of the main insturment circut. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I love that gauge and my milage alway is with in .2 of hand calcultation. it's only been out a few hours and I miss it already.
This is most likely a resistor coming loose. It is a very well known problem with the overhead consoles. Do a search for "overhead" and you should be able to find a big thread with great instructions on how to pull it down and solder the resistor(s) back in place to fix it.
no clearance lights, but I did leav my sunroof open. After searching and seeing that I'm not alone it sounds like a more common issue than I thought. I pulled the console and it looks like I have a loose chip on the board. I'm going to attempt to re-solder... we'll see?
Well, I can't bring myself to solder my board, so I just went I heated up the back side and then frimly pressed all the chips in place. So far so good. If it does need to be soldered should I solder from the front (Chip Side) or the back? Hopefully It won't be an issue.
Solder from the back side....you don't want to heat the components, just the solder ring and lead.... if you try to solder from the component side, you stand a better chance of burning the component.
Be sure and use a solder pin, lower wattage and low heat. I think it is around 25watts or less. Here's the link, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...-gone-out.html and post #4 tells it all, Look in his gallery for some good pictures.
Let us know how it goes, and if you don't solder it now, it will fail you again. Some have even lost the resistor and had to find another one, then solder it in. You will be fine.
