i have a d50ttb front with auto hubs and a 10.25ff rear wonderin what would be the effect of weldin the carriers and still bein a daily driver i tow a 5k landscape trailer daily and run 33inch rubber would it be feasable to do this to save money or not and would the front unlock and be fine in the corners on the street. or should i just save up and put in a detroit and lockright thanks
With a tow rig, you do not want a welded rear diff. It will chew up tires at an alarming rate, and handling will be horrible. You would be much better off with a locker, selectable would be the preference for something that sees lots of trailering.
ok well there is a guy down the street that has a 350 with a kingpin d60 and i have heard its easy to swap in but what all is involved and do you think i would be safe with a detroit locker in the rear also had one more ? what would be a good manual to swap behind a 7.5l
what year is the 60 comin out of and what year is the 60 goin into?
As for the trans, my zf5 speed is awesome I love it, ive heard that just about the only better trans would be the zf6, which is the diesel version. Im not postive, but it should bolt up to your 7.5.
Edit: scratch that, i remember there was someone talking about this, and the bolt patterns are not the same.
more for pullin and we have the hill climbs around here and where i go campin its a muddy mess to get up i had lockers in my old truck i just never messed with a ttb before and want some info
If you thinkin about welding or lockers, then you must wheel sit, if you weld a ttb i say it goes boom turnin out the drive way.
why would you have it in 4wd leaving the driveway?
I have a D50 TTB daily driver. i'm putting a locker in the front. If you tow trailers in any sort of terrain you'll want one too. i'm not saying welding is a good idea, its not. i'm saying for a DD, which sees the odd abuse offroad its not necessary to imediately do a SAS. i offroad my TTB lots, its still going strong.

If you weld the carrier, then that stops the axle shafts from being able to turn indepenently, when you turn, your outside wheels turn faster than the inside one, on the weak ttb, the will cause the axle to snap, its not like the rear where there aint much weight, a truck carries 70% of its weight over the front tires.

As do i, i got the ever awesome ttb, and ive got 37"s on it, with 4.10 gears 351w and the zf 5speed it does well, but i know its only gunna be amatter of time before it lets go completly, just tonight i grenaneded a u joint. Im preparing to do an sas so when i needs to be done im ready.

you would still have to have the hubs locked for that to happen.
and i'm well aware of how much weight is on the front of the truck, i have a diesel. hubs on free and truck not in 4wd the axle shafts should not be turning. when you turn sharp the way the ujoint is situated may cause the shaft to turn a slight amount like..maybe an 1/8 of a turn at most.
and also if you read what i put i said NOT to weld it
