I have developed a ticking sound around 1300 to 1600 rpms. doesn't do it at idle, no blue or white smoke. Did a buzz test, and ran for codes. Nothing came up. Any ideas of what this could be?
you mean an exhaust tick sound??? if so..check the tube.(looks like a brake line) on the passanger side exhuast manifold..near the front of the truck....this tube goes up to the EBPS (exhaust back pressure sensor)..it will some times get pin holes in it and start to tick.....
If you get this ticking while sitting and revving to 1300-1600 have someone do the skinny peddle for you while you try to locate the ticking with a mechanic's stethoscope. No stethoscope - use a long skinny funnel held to your ear. Hey, don't laugh , it can help you narrow it down to a particular area. But be careful. You don't want to go deaf. If you go deaf in one ear do not use the other ear.
yea I checked the whole exhaust for leaks, and I can't find any signs. I only hear it when I'm under load. it doesn't do it when I am parked. if i floor it i can't hear it but if i accelerate normally then it is most noticeable. is this an injector going? wouldn't the buzz test show that? could this possibly be a clutch issue if the sound isn't there while under no load?
its definately on the drivers side and it sounds like it is coming from behind the dash/firewall.
I'll bet the sound you hear is the #8 injector. This doesn't mean it's failing. Mine makes more noise at times than others and has for the last five years and it still runs just fine.
It is a different injector than the other seven, so it's bound to sound differently in operation.
