does my '01 psd 4dr 4x4 have powdered metal rods or forged? I did a search to find out what years had them but couldn't figure it out. I don't know if I have a early or late '01. I was just curious what I had so I could plan future mods.

not sure what the answer is on that..but what is your build date??
how do i tell what date? tag on drivers door? it says 4/01 made in mexico. (I didn't know they made these in mexico) so maybe i have the pmr. anyway to know for sure?
I'd like to look in the inspection hole in my engine, but can't get the plug out. It seems 5 years of Michigan salty winter roads have corroded the plug so bad I can't get anything to remove it. Any ideas on how to remove the plug?

I used a 2" long 3/8" drive extension that I ground down the end of to fit the square drive plug. Soaking it with some pb blaster and a few taps with a hammer to shock it and it broke free fairly easily.

On almost every truck I've checked the engine build date is within a week or so of the truck build date. I have no doubt that you have PMR's as 4/01 is well after the switch was made.
Yeah....that is frikkin odd, but Mikes engine has been something of a mystery ever since he discovered the PMR's. His the only only truck I've seen built before October that I've heard of with PMR's.
Tell me about it. Almost makes me want to go back out there and look again, but I spent too much time trying to see something that I wasn't going to see the first time. Maybe I needed reading glasses back then already, LOL.
