My leaf springs are misaligned as per the Consumer
Complaint section of this website. Is this a prob-
lem that is supposed to be exp. only on 4wd trucks
or 2wd trucks with the towing package as well?
I also read something about some clips that are supposed to be available to correct this problem.
Is this true? are they something that is covered under a recall,or do they charge for it? I wouldn't
mind if they do,I just want to fix it if possible.
I know from my last few messages it seems like I
don't like my truck, but I would rather push it than
drive a chevy. I recently had the misfortune of renting a four door blazer and was glad I had a ford. It was very poor in the power dept.and the suspension was extremely soft, wallowed badly
in even the slowest of maneuvers. Also it had a very bad cowl shake when on bumpy roads. the blazer
in question had less than 1000 miles on it!! when I
got back from vacation it felt like I was driving a lightning.
EXCUSE ME!! GEEZ. IT IS RIGHT ABOVE THIS ONE ON THE
AUTO GUIDE SECTION. ACTUALLY I WOULD HAVE PREFERED
TO HAVE AN ANSWER THAN YOUR NOTIFICATION. I DID INT END TO ASK THE QUESTION HERE.
I'll reiterate, with a clarification. We do not have a consumer complaint section of the site. The link you're referring to (Recalls/TSBs) brings you to a page on our site that states that it "links" the NHTSA site. They provide recall, TSB and consumer complaints.
They are not us, and it says NHTSA on their page and the address in your browser when on that screen says "http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/", not "ford-trucks.com".
So relax :-), I'm not slamming you, just making sure users don't become confused and look for a page we don't have. As to your question, I don't know the answer so I can't answer it.

My 98 4.6l ext cab, short bed also has misaligned leaf springs. I wouldn't mind knowing what the fix is either. Anyone can loosen the bolts and line them up again but is there some caution needed here.
Thanks
I believe there is a recall for 4x4s where the dealer is to inspect the springs for cracking and replace if necessary and to install a clip to keep the spring pack from pearcing the gas tank in the event of a crack.

I just printed out the recall from the NHTSA page using the link on this website. It is recall campaign #98S18. This may be an important item to have checked out since the fuel tank can be damaged as a result of a leaf fracture. There were approximately 202,000 units affected-I'll bet you can double that. The recall was supposedly only for 4X4's but I have a two wheeler and my leaf springs are misaligned too. The hotline number for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is 1-800-327-4236-I suggest us two wheeler F-150 owners call it!
So far on my '98 I have a high speed whine in the rear end, door crack, and misaligned leaf springs. Why, why does the Ford Motor Company continue to embarass itself? The mechanics are doing a great job but they're putting together a piece of !!!!! caused by cost-cutters and poor engineering. Love the truck but doggone it why can't it be made of better material, and better engineering?
