Well it was my buddy's birthday party, and his sister invited a friend over from out of town. He has a new 6.7 that he thought was making 550 hp. Basically what he had done (because I did ask) was removed the emmisions, and chipped it, and his clutch was slipping, so he was sure he was making 550, and was sure that the southbend 550 I suggested wasnt enough. (I think thats what mech runs). So a little while goes by, and my friend asked me what the scoop was. I told him, and that I figured he may be making 400 at the tires, if his programming was good, and that if he wanted to hook up, Id pull him backwards. So he started playing instigator, and sure enough an hour later, the kid went out and started his truck, and said he had to go "warm it up" and take it for a drive. Me, I just took my front tires down to 30psi, from 65psi. He comes back, we line up, and I told him, about three more times. "You dont have to do this you know." Oh but he was certain he was going to pull me. Little did he know I weighed about 2500# more, and have a detroit in the rear. But I cant say I didnt warn him. We got in, I set the tension on the line, and he started to pull, I waited a second, then got on the throttle. Pulled him about a quarter of a mile, backwards . And at first he wanted best of 3 pulls! And I swear I would have let off if I didnt think he wasnt still trying. After our first pull, he didnt want to pull me anymore haha. Too bad, good times. I warned him about that. He goes "ten feet and you know if you won, why didnt you stop??!?" I just replied, well it felt like you might have been still trying, and this is the farm lane rules, Ive been pulled backwards farther, back in the jeep days. Poor poor kid. Just never new what hit him.
Great story, I bet he felt like an idiot afterwards. So how did you end up weighing 2500# more, and are you chipped?
Well, my truck is a work truck. Not an empty truck. The other day I hit the scales, at 9k. Most empty SRW diesels are in the 6500 range, which is what I guessed him at, later I asked him, and he told me 6400 haha. My truck for now, has a DP, tranny with a p/i t/c, and bts valvebody, ATS compressor housing, then other little things. Also, I think even with stock progamming I would have pulled him. Im pretty sure the weight was the key factor of this equation.
I personally feel that the most overlooked thing with pulling back to back is wich truck is higher.
If you have a PSD, and then a dodge, the dodges usually have higher rear bumpers, so when you pull, the dodge lifts weight off the fords rear tires.
Even the old 7.3 IDI diesels have more tourqe than newer gas motors.
Youre lucky no trucks got damaged during this fun.......
Our hitches were pretty much even actually. But I have a set of really heavy springs in the rear, making mine about 1.5-2 inches higher then oem springs. And really his truck could have been pretty high, but I still had a 2500# advantage on him. I never did look to see how is tailgate looks
