Hello I'm going away for a few days with my 5th wheel and I got a code reading of P1395 and P1396. I checked the gp's for resistance and found one plug to be 6.5 so that is the bad one all the rest were between .5 and 1.8.
My question is I don't have time to work on it so would it hurt my engine to run it that way for a few days? I live in so. ca. and the temp is about 95 deg. in the daytime and 65 deg. at night.
When I first got my Excursion, it was throwing a glow plug code. I'd reset it, run a few days, and it would come back on. Reset again, and continue the cycle. I had Ford dealer replace glow plugs when I took it in for CPS recall. No harm done. The glow plugs really help when it is in the 30's outside. Worst that would happen is you would get some smoke at start-up until the engine warmed up, I think.
IMO, you're good to go. When I replaced the glow plugs, I bought a set of 8 on e-bay for about $60.00. Genuine Ford, made in Ireland. Dealer wants ~ $25.00 each!!
Make sure you get motorcraft plugs. At least on the IDI's only motorcrafts wouldn't swell and break a tip off in cylinder. I drove my IDI with 5 of the 8 plugs for about 6 months. They are starting aids, and cold emissions devices. No harm with just one out...just a cranky cylinder until it gets up to temp
