in with a later(72-8?) timing set.Now after about 3500 miles it starting to load up at idle and foul the plugs. No other problems.
ported 79 heads , Edel-performer intake /600 cfm headers-2.5 exhaust
The only thing I didn't replace is the distributor . This truck is a 79 F250 460-c6 Trailer Special.
Any help here?
Thanks
also get rid of that 600cfm carb. with those mods and cam, you need at least a 750cfm carb for that engine to breathe. the 600cfm is great carb for a 302 or a 351, but not a 460. you will notice a huge difference by swapping out that carb for something bigger.

What cam? He says nothing about a cam. So you are wrong about the 750 carb. You are also wrong about the 600 being only good for small blocks. You are an overcarburator, very bad for street, mileage and towing. The 600 is great for a stock and/or tow rig. I would replace the stock 600 Holley 4180 emissions carb with a non-emissions Holly 600 if you haven't already. I did just that and with a personally twicked Holley List 1850, 600CFM vacuum secondary carb, my mileage was up close to 1.5 mpg and towing ability increase 2 fold.
I been having to retard the timing to get it to start. But it will only retard so much
600 is fine for this set up
Missed that, but a 750 is way to much for a 5000 rpm rev limit. A 650 would be better. For a street truck with any towing in it's future the 600 would still be a better choice as it will improve fuel economy and low end throttle response. Just how often would this engine ever see max revs?
I put it all back together and all I can say is WOW.What a big difference,I sure that the 30 year old dizzy had something to do with the way it was running.
