Post the Ford ID code off the transfer case.
The code will be one of the following: E3TA-7A195-FA, or FB, or GA, or GB, if the T/C is original to your 1983 F350.
There's no code in the VIN, or on the Certification Label (or Warranty Plate) that tells what the transfer case is.
What is your truck, a 1983 F350 as your profile sez?
