Question Fuel line questions

Ok, so I got the fuel pump pulled. The problem is, I couldn't get the fuel line off the pump (nut stripped). So apparently I got to head over to KOI tomorrow and pick up a metal line (tube) and a tube bender (?). Anyone care to give me the Cliff Notes guide to bending a fuel line? Do I have to bend it to an exact match of the line I removed? The old run had a bunch of bends and turns that seemed kind of unnessesary, but maybe it all serves a purpose?

So how hard is to do? And do I have to match the old line bend for bend?

Once this is all put back together, hopefully I'll be back to my '78 F100 Explorer being my daily driver. This has been a pretty cool experience- learning a ton about trucks and I've been able to spend some quality time with my 4yo who LOVES the fact that Daddy now has a pick-up. I really appreciate y'alls help, this board is one heck of a resource!!

get a small section of hard line with a new nut on there, and just splice it with a little rubber hose. I actually just bought a brass fitting for mine with a nipple on it, cut the hard line, and run rubber from hardline to the "in" on the fuel pump.

There's no worries doing it this way? Anyone ever replace the hard line with some of the fancy steel braided lines from Edelbrock?

if you do use a bender, make sure it is not for bigger line or your line will kink and be rendered useless

If you run rubber line over a hard line, you have to barb the metal line otherwise the hose will slip off the hard line no matter how well you clamp it.

Did you use a flare wrench when you tried to remove the flare fitting on the metal line from the pump? If not, make sure you do that next time because an open-end wrench will easily strip a flare nut. It's pretty hard to strip a flare nut when you're using the correct size flare wrench, because it wraps around most of the flare nut.

If you're going to bend new line, you'll need new line, a bender, fittings, and a flare die.

Go to the parts store and see if they have the brake line with some special coating. It is very easy to bend by hand, and it doesn't kink as long as you go slow and make the bend gradual, although a bender does help.

I always fill the tubing with sand and plug the ends when I bend tubing. Works really well. Just go easy and you won't kink it. That softer tubing mentioned previously makes it even easier.
