Guys.trying to figure out a problem with trying to install a timesert in the blown plug on my 2000 v-10 250...3rd (or 4th) from front on passenger side.... counter bored as per instructions on instructions sheet, then tried to ream it out with step reamer, but it is only going down about halfway....yes, piston is at bottom of stroke. wanted to know if anyone else experienced this problem or if its just me? need to get this behind me so i can get truck back on road....on the timesert video they use an air ratchet to ream out the hole. i tried that also with no luck......thanks
A fellow posted a write up about his experiences doing all 10 plug holes on his motor home. 06/23/08 Oldusedbear. The man did his research and got it done.
Good luck hope this might help.
I did all 8 of mine and didn't have any issues like that. I used some pretty good downward pressure on the air ratchet thought. It doesn't cut very well with just the weight of the tool and ratchet.
We talked to Britt on the phone earlier today. His truck is not at home where he can conveniently work on it as yet, but he is hoping to get this hole where the plug blew fixed so he CAN bring it home.
We don't know for sure yet, but think he may need to apply more pressure on the reamer. When we did all 10 inserts on my engine, we found it very helpful to use about a 4 foot length of 2 X 2 as a lever to add extra vertical pressure to the air ratchet. Those reamers are ground such that they are more of a scraping tool than a shearing tool, and take LOTS of pressure to make them cut.
