I also have a fuel pump that needs to be installed.. should i just run a 12v line right to the bat and throw it on a swtich in my dash so you have to turn the swtich on in order to have the fuel pump working or just wire it to the igntion like the msd it would be kinda kewl to have it on a swtich kinda like a theft deturnant system im no electriction but i know enough toget me into trouble. I looked at my wire diagram in my ford b ook and that about did me in i was lost in a hurry so any help here would be awesome
what sort of relay do you mean and how would i wire it. im not really sure how i would wire up 1. I know enough to get me in trouble like i said like + and - thats simple but im not really sure whats a realy and how one would wire it
thanks for the input because the directions where pretty stupid connect one wire to postive and the other to negative and thats about it. but i was thinking if one where to do that it would be running all the time so i would have to a) switch it or b) put it in the ignition.
Vehicles equipped with electric fuel pumps all have a relay in the circuits. A relay consists of an electromagnetic coil that when the coil is energized it either opens or closes electrical contacts in a circuit as you would do by flipping a switch. The benefit of these relays is that they are usually able to carry much higher amperage loads than manual switches are and the fact that they are enclosed lowers the possibility of having a fire. To install one it the fuel pump circuit you would energize the electromagnetic coil with power from your ignition switch. The power for your pump motor should come through any source that has wire that is ample in size to carry the electrical load of the pump and would be wired through the normally open contacts on the relay, then to the pump. This circuit should be protected with a fuse that is rated somewhat above the rated amperage draw of the pump motor under load. I believe it is 120%. Have fun!
yeah i have that oil pressure sensure switch or whatever you call it. Holly recommended me to do it so i ordered that up i just thought that if you loss oil pressure it shut that off like if you had an oil leak but yeah i guess that works if you get into a crash. Where would i put that it has thrads in it so i thread it right into the block somwhere that has oil pressure right?
You need to TEE it into where the oil pressure sending unit is.
I find it strange you never mentioned what year treuck or what engine you're dealing with.
Some sending units are at the back of the block (429/460)and some are near the oil filter (302).
I have a question, when you start your truck you are going to have to crank it until you get oil pressure before your fuel pump will run? You might have a problem.
well i dont have the oil pressure sensor switch or the fuel sender or any other senders i had a brand new motor built for me and i forgot all about those so i will have to order those up and where do i put that once i get it?
On the back of the block there is a oil pressure sending unit.
You have to remove it.
Get a Brass Tee-Fitting and a short extension pipe that will fit the Oil pressure sending unit and the actuating switch and thread in to where the oil pressure sending unit came out of.
The switch has two connections, all you are doing it breaking the line to the pump.
The S/U has one connector.
