A very good friend of mine who is a farmer is having trouble with his 1990 F350 7.3 diesel starting when it is hot. It will start fine when it's cold or cooled down but when you shut it off and try to restart while it's still hot it won't start. It will crank but won't start up. When it is running it runs fine.
I have been having the same problem with my truck which is a 92 7.3 and i have gotten a lot of help from everyone on here and i finally found out that it really was the injection pump. I could start my truck everyday on the first crank if it had been sitting but after i drove for more than 10min. and then shut it off and tried to restart it wouldn't start for anything. So i finally decided to try the water test. I had a bottle of water in my truck that was probably 90+ degrees because it had been in there for a while and i poured that right on the injector pump. I closed the hood got back in the truck and it fired up in a split second. I had tried cranking it for almost 10min. intermitantly before that and nothing. So sorry to say but thats what his problem is. $345 on ebay with no core.

Where exactly is the injection pump on the engine?
Pouring water on it might get you home, might even work a couple of times, but eventually it will either ruin the pump or it will just quit working completely. Then you're really stuck. It's inevitable you'll be buying an IP soon.
Just figured I'd let you know so you don't get stranded in BFE.
