Talk about versatile! I just bought this ODB -I & II tool (with opt Ford CP9128 ODB-I cable) for $131 at Amazon. It works on my ODB-I '95 Escort wagon and '93 Aerostar, and my ODB-II '99 Cadillac STS.
I have an older OTC scanner that I need to sell on Ebay
Technically its not a scan tool since a scan tool can do more than pull codes. But these are very valuable for diagnosing your own vehicles. I have a somewhat nicer model, but then I also had to pay more for it. I have a $200 Equus.
I do have an OBD-II scan tool that lets me look at live sensor readouts, graph the outputs, and save the results. We actually just added it to our site. However, it does not work with OBD-I. So it is only useful on '96 and newer vehicles. But if you have one, it is neat what this tool can do. And the great thing, is it costs thousands less than the types of scanners that shops use. Plus you can do a lot of other things with it.
this tool lets to pull codes, but not ABS codes (ATE use k-line) ore Air bag codes, does not let programm keys, parametrize ore programm units. This is just scanner (not Ford VCM set).
This one does realtime 'live' data, I used it to determine that my temp guage was correct, the scanner was reporting the temperature swings also...the stant 'superstat'
was the fix, van is now rock-steady at 195..I just got it back from a friend, used it on his saturn...intermittent CEL, it read the 'freeze data', and looks like it's an o2 sensor.
Remember, this is the superscanner, it's better than the other one that looks just like it, and it is upgradeable to CAN, thru the web.
yeah, it is very good scanner can read real time OBD data. Sometime sensors read wrong data but ECU does not consider this data implossive and store codes that do not poit really bad sensor.
My friend had hight idle problems, but had no codes. Replaced IAC and no effect, with scanner he got his ECT read -5 dgr C at all times. Repared wiring and solved problem
