Hello guys. New to this board since I just got a 66 f100. My question is what options do I have for the bed floor replacement on my style side bed. Present floor is badly rusted. Any replacement sources or good donor beds for floors?
Currently, no replacements or correct patches are available. If it's just the front edge like most, you may be able to cut out a section from another bed. If it's really bad, you're probably better off just buying another complete bed.
Grafting in a new model I don't think will work because the wheelbase changed slightly on the newer trucks and the wheelhouses won't be in the right spot.
Bookmarked couple links of members bed restoration projects. May be able to find more if run a search on topic and narrow field to 61-66 forum. Don't imagine member would have a problem if you wanted to email them re: any questions.
Thanks for the replies. Done several F1 trucks in the past but these F100's are new to me. Just getting started on this one and think it will be alot of fun doing.
If Rick would make it I would order the floor, I really only need the front section and the support brace underneath, but would replace the entire floor if available. I contacted Rick and asked him when he would begin to offer the floor; he said nothing planned at this time.
I was also thinking about trying to convert to a wooden floor as an option if Rick doesn't stamp the floor, or just cut it out and weld an entire floor in from a later year.
I plan on getting to the bed floor this winter.
Could we set up a poll on this site and then send Rick the results?
Paul 64, I looked in your gallery. I see some pictures of the outside of the bed. I would be very interested in seing more of the actual floor replacement. I've always wondered if a newer bed might be a good source.
My 66 has a very straight long bed, but as most of them, the floor is pretty bad. As for a repro panel, I would also be interested in that. Count me in!
Nobody is going to stamp a complete floor. The machinery required is simply too large and the demand too small. I think the best we can hope for is a section of the ribbed area enough to do across the front edge of the bed, since this is where most of them rot.
gangstrk or something like that[dont remember the spelling of his name] had grafted a chevy truck floor into his truck...
on second thought it might not have been gangstark ive looked threw his threads and havent found nuthing... well im sure who ever it was will turn up and say something or some one will remember who im talking about... but who ever it was, had put air bags under the rear end and a drop axle i think in the front...
Whatever you do, don't buy the patches from LMC. They suck BAD! They are nothing like the actual bed floor.
I ended up buying a box from a 2001 F150 for $150 and I'm going to make it fit. It's not going to be a simple process, though. I still haven't figured out exactly what I'm going to do. The 2001 has straight frame rails, but the '65 model has arches in the frame over the rear axle.
The nice thing about the '65 (not sure if this is true of the '66 as well) is that the ribbed part of the bed is only between the wheel wells. The ribs on my box for instance cover a 4 x 8 area. The floor panels on both sides of the wheel wells are just simple flat pieces, so any floor that has the right length and can fill the width between the wheel wells will work. You just have to cut the excess off.
